Bert Appleroth started making jelly crystals at home in his bathtub in 1926. He was then working as a tram conductor, and would go to work armed with a batch of jelly crystals, and visit stores along the tram’s route. They sold so well that in 1927, Bert left his job on the trams, rented a shed in Paddington NSW and started full-time production of jelly crystals. It was the birth of Aeroplane Jelly!
